Note: This portfolio project was originally published in 2017 but it was a formative part of my career as a freelancer.

Adventure scientists is a conservation organization that sends out volunteers to collect data in remote locations for conservation partners. Those partnerships have led to the discovery of species, provide information to guide conservation decision making and helped protect threatened wildlife habitat all around the world. I have worked on three video projects with the organization to help them train volunteers and aid in community outreach.

Timber Project

In 2018, I was working on training videos for volunteers for the newly established Timber Project.

Pollinators

I worked with Adventure Scientists on their Pollinators Projectfrom May 2017 to early 2018. I aided in visually enhancing their volunteer training program. I produced a series of short videos that are a fun way to break up the drudgery of the training modules. The videos demonstrate simple techniques and protocols with a little bit of silly-ness.

Microplastics

I was brought on the Microplastics Project to interview a few of the volunteers and create a video that showcases the project’s participants. I had the volunteers talk to a few points about the organization and I set them up with a table of toys and props to aid them in telling the often funny or terrifying stories of the collection of their water samples. The storytelling portions were the most fun even if they were not included in the final video.
